Theater auditions: ‘Chicago’ in Kissimmee

Here’s an audition notice from the Osceola Center for the Arts:

The Osceola Center for the Arts is holding auditions for the musical Chicago Sunday, February 6 from 6-9 pm and Monday, February 7 from 7-9 pm.  Auditions will be held at the Center and are open to the public.  Due to the adult content of the show, the director is casting adults only and is specifically looking for women who look at least 25 years and older to play several of the roles.  All roles are unpaid.  Actors may attend either evening and should prepare 16 bars of a song and may be asked to read from the script and learn a short dance routine.  All roles are available and include the following characters:
Velma Kelly                         Roxie Hart                            Amos Hart
Billy Flynn                            Mary Sunshine                     Matron
Fred Casley                           Sergeant Fogarty                 Judge
Merry Murderesses (Liz, Annie, June, Hunyak, Mona)

Chicago takes place in the roaring twenties, where Roxie Hart murders her faithless lover.  Roxie, along with Velma Kelly (another notorious murderess on death row) vie for the spotlight and the headlines.  Chicago is based on the play Chicago by Maurine Dallas Watkins, with the book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.  Musical numbers include “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” “Roxie,” “My Own Best Friend” & more.

Chicago runs March 25 thru April 10 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm and will be directed by David Gerrard.  Gerrard recently directed Hello, Dolly! at the Center and will appear onstage as Teddy in the upcoming production of Arsenic and Old Lace.

Tickets for Chicago are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and students and can be purchased by calling 407.846.6257 x 0.  The Center is located at 2411 E. Hwy 192 between Kissimmee and St. Cloud.  For more information, please call 407.846.6257 or visit www.ocfta.com.
