Here’s an audition notice from the IceHouse Theatre:
The IceHouse Theatre announces auditions for ‘Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks’
Saturday, March 27 from noon – 3 pm
The IceHouse Theatre will hold auditions for the final production of its 2009-2010 season, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, a contemporary comedic drama with mature themes, by Richard Alfieri. The play introduces us to Lily Harrison, the widow of a southern Baptist minister and Michael Minetti, a free-lance dance instructor. When Michael arrives at Lily’s St. Petersburg, Florida condo to give her “at home” dance lessons, their vastly contrasting personalities causes the meeting to be filled with instantaneous friction and animosity. In this brilliantly witty and disarming play, these two characters bristle and snap – ultimately each revealing more than intended while both face the music – and dance. Auditions will be held in Suite 4 of the IceHouse Youth Theatre building; located on the corner of Morningside Drive and Old Highway 441, (2001 W. Old Highway 441,) Mt. Dora, 32757. Directions will be provided with appointment times.
Auditions are by appointment only: Auditioning actors will read from the script; prepared monologues are not required. Bring along a pair of comfortable shoes to dance in: actors may be asked to learn a couple of basic dance combinations. Ballroom dance instructor David Hicks will be choreographing.
Time slots are being scheduled for Saturday, March 27, from noon – 3:00 pm. Contact Darlin Barry by e-mail to request a time slot: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include a performance resume and photo. Appointment times will be e-mailed. Rehearsals will begin in early April. Show dates are May 7-30, 2010, Thursdays-Sundays.
The Roles: The production has two roles: one male, Michael Minetti (35-50,) a sarcastic man, whose bitter humor hides his pain and disappointment with his current lot in life; and one female, Lily Harrison (60-75,) whose self-righteousness masks her fears of being alone. Previous dance experience is required for both actors; the show will contain some strenuous dancing and stamina will be necessary.
