Doors, Valencia Character Company

The Valencia Character Company is proud to announce the winning playwright of our 19th annual Original Play Competition among Florida playwrights, Mr. Stephen A. DeWoody.  DeWoody’s play, Doors, was selected from among almost 40 submissions of full length never-before-produced original manuscripts written by writers from around the state and will open Tuesday, March 30 in the Black Box Theater on Valencia’s East Campus.  Additional performances will be March 31 – April 3 at 7:30 PM.  Tickets are $8 General Admission, $6 for students, seniors, and VCC staff, and FREE for Valencia students with ID.  Seating is limited in the Black Box Theater, and late-comers may not be seated.  Arriving 30 minutes prior to curtain is suggested. To purchase tickets, call the Box Office at 407-582-2900, or go to www.redchairproject.com.

Stephen DeWoody will be familiar to audiences in Central Florida, as he has been acting in the area for several decades, as well as teaching theater, raising a family, and writing.  He recently finished his first novel, and is actively pitching it to agents.  Mr. DeWoody, along with the cast and director, will be available for a talk-back following the Friday evening performance.

Doors  is a gentle comedy that takes place in a limbo-like land of …what else?  Doors!  An eclectic group of characters find themselves thrown together in an uncommon situation, and work and play at untangling the mystery of their surroundings.   The script has gone through a developmental process at the college, with the involvement of the writer, and the world premiere is being directed by Valencia’s Artistic Director, Julia Allardice Gagne.

Leslie Jordan’s all new ‘From Whence I Came’ brings popular TV star / movie star / comedian back to Orlando’s Footlight Theatre at Parliament House Resort

Returning to the Sunshine State where he readily admits and embraces the warmth and glowing acceptance of his fan base, beloved Emmy Award winning actor/comedian Leslie Jordan returns to the Footlight Theatre at the Parliament House as he premieres his new and latest stage show. Aptly titled Leslie Jordan’s— all new From Whence I Came, Jordan continues to regale adoring audiences while commanding center stage, weaving tales both personal and public about his astonishing life and career.  Jordan is scheduled to appear at the resort on Sunday, March 28 at 8PM.

Jordan is a small town man with a giant propensity for scene stealing.   Best known for his bravura recurring role as Karen’s nemesis Beverley Leslie on Will & Grace (for which he won his Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, 2006) as well as the now iconic Brother Boy of both the original feature film Sordid Lives and the recent Logo TV sensation, Sordid Lives, The Series, he has also made dozens of memorable appearances in commercials and hit television shows such as Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, Murphy Brown, Monk and as a series regular on Hearts Afire.

Returning to the stage in recent years, Jordan has obtained great acclaim with a string of successful one man stage shows chronicling his life and times, his triumphs and temptations, rewards and redemptions.  Starting with Hysterical Blindness and other Southern Maladies That Have Affected My Life Thus Far, Like a Dog on Linoleum, Leslie Jordan-Full of Gin and Regret and the off-Broadway bound My Trip Down the Pink Carpet, premiering April 19 for a 12 week run at the Midtown Theatre in New York City. From Whence I Came continues as a well-spring of Jordan’s comic genius; elaborating upon his life experience as that rare individual who tells it like it is, was, needs to be and continues to be; comically overwrought childhood agonies and offbeat observations. Of course, no Jordan show would be complete without his ribald, revealing celebrity encounters that keep his audiences clamoring for more. True to form, Jordan’s latest collection will certainly not disappoint!

Leslie Jordan’s all new From Whence I Came brings the popular entertainer back to one of his personal favorite venues, the Footlight Theatre at the Parliament House Resort.  “Audiences here just seem to get it… me, my humor, angst and all.  I suppose it comes from y’all being Southern boys too” Jordan quips with that unmistakable, naughty twinkle in his eye.

The combined efforts of Wanzie Presents and Parliament House co-owner Susan Unger will once again be producing the local Orlando presentation of the all new Jordan show in association with Reaction Productions, a Los Angeles based entertainment/marketing and promotions firm which is producing and marketing the touring production on behalf of Mr. Jordan.
