Also opening this weekend:

Here’s another opening this weekend:

Moonlight Players, ‘Noises Off’:

Noises Off is a 1982 play by English playwright Michael Frayn. The idea for it was born in 1970, when Frayn was standing in the wings watching a performance of Chinamen, a farce that he had written for Lynn Redgrave.

According to the playwright, “It was funnier from behind than in front and I thought that one day I must write a farce from behind.”

In his plot for Noises Off, Frayn plays on the concept of a play within a play, in this case a paradoxically dreadful sex comedy titled Nothing On — the type of play in which young girls run about in their underwear, old men drop their trousers, and many doors continually open and shut.

The cast includes Shelley Ackman, Don Canavan, Sonny Dyon, Glen Howard, Donelle Irvine, Wayne Manuel, Tracy McCoy, Carolina Ousley and Denise Truscott.

Noises Off will be directed by Joe Ousley, new to the Moonlight director’s chair. Joe came to Moonlight Players in the production of Guys and Dolls. He not so gracefully took to the stage again as Mrs. White in Clue! The Musical. As assistant director for Much Ado About Nothing, he helped bring Jan’s pirate theme to life. He has acted, directed, designed, produced, assisted, created, ran lighting, sound, and spent many a sleepless nights in theatre for more than 30 years. Excited for the challenge of creating a two-story show in a one-story building, Joe now focuses his full attention on the making Noises Off, an incredible production that South Lake County can be proud of.

In 1992, the play was adapted for the screen by Marty Kaplan. The film, directed by Peter Bogdanovich, starred Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve, and John Ritter.
