Back in town, and here’s your regular edition of Opening This Week:

Glory Days:

Glory Days presented by Orlando Young Artists’ Project, Inc.
Mandell Studio Theater, Lowndes Shakespeare Center

Glory Days features a vibrant score, penned by Nick Blaemire, and a beautifully down-to-earth and excited book penned by James Gardiner, two high school buddies who met through their own local theatre.

The show will feature a live band and four extremely talented individuals, Bobby Johnston, Ross Alagna, Mathew D’Amico and James Channing, as best friends who have one hell of a night.

The show is a 90-minute one-act musical, which plays out in real time.  It’s a story about tolerance, friendship and growing up.

Glory Days is playing at the Mandell Studio Theater at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, located at 812 E. Rollins St., Orlando, FL.

Performances will be July 31 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm and August 1 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm.

Seasons:

Elaine Pechacek and Katie Hammond are at it again! The writing duo responsible for the Orlando original musical comedy Delayed are now previewing the music from their newest musical, Seasons, at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 8:00pm. Seasons has a much more somber feel then Elaine and Katie’s prior work and deals with the different seasons of life we all go through and experience. The character’s face an array of emotional situations from the beauty of young love and having children, to being faced with cancer and dealing with the repercussions of misguided decisions.

On August 1, Katie and Elaine will be performing, along with Summer Aiello, Sarah Hanchar, Charles Gray, Philip Gelin, and Scott Whittemore, 10 of the songs from the musical score for the very first time in front of a live audience. Please come out and join us!

Tickets are $5.00 at the door, cash only.

In The Pirates of Penzance, Frederic was as a child apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted, orphaned pirates by his nurse who, being hard of hearing, had mistaken her master’s instructions to apprentice the boy to a pilot. Frederic, upon completing his 21st year, rejoices that he has fulfilled his indentures and is now free to return to respectable society. But it turns out that he was born on February 29 in leap year, and he remains apprenticed to the pirates until his 21st birthday.

Yow Dance:

National Dance Day

Yow Dance invites you to the Orlando Public Library tomorrow, July 31, at 1 p.m. In honor of National Dance Day, Yow Dance will perform repertoire and will offer a lecture. Come out to meet the company and learn how different types of relationships inspired the choreography for Love Songs and Summer Suite!

This event is free and open to the public.
