Big news at Orlando Shakespeare Theater: Arnold Breman is retiring as managing director, effective this week, and director of development Shannon Lacek, a three-year veteran at the theater, will become the new managing director Sept. 1.
Shannon, of course, is a familiar face in the Orlando arts community: She was head of marketing and development at Enzian Theater before coming to Orlando Shakes in 2007.
Breman, who has had a long career building and running theaters and performing arts centers in Florida and up north, says he’ll stay in the area and do some consulting work. He joined Orlando Shakes last year.
Thanks to Arnold and a hefty congratulations to Shannon, who is both a tremendously hard worker and a pleasure to be around. Here’s the official word from the theater:
Orlando Shakespeare Theater Announces Breman Retirement,
Lacek Appointment As New Managing Director
After forty-five years of a successful career in arts management, Arnold Breman has announced his retirement as Managing Director of the Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF. Breman, who joined Orlando Shakes in 2009, managed one of OST’s most successful seasons, which included the highest attendance of any Shakespeare show at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center with Hamlet, as well as the re-organization of OST’s volunteer groups including the Shakespeare Friends, Ambassadors and Advisory Council groups. “I am so impressed with the staff and patrons of Orlando Shakes and it was a joy to work with one of the most impressive Board of Directors in the region,” Breman stated, “but it’s time now for me to move on to other endeavors and spend more time with my family.” He plans to stay in the area and do consulting work in the future.
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Development Director Shannon Lacek has been named the new Managing Director. Lacek joined Orlando Shakespeare Theater in 2007 and is beginning her fourth season. As Director of Development she was responsible for grant writing, special events, sponsorship, and individual giving. Previously, she was Director of Marketing & Development at Enzian Theater in Maitland where she marketed more than 250 films and events per year, including the Florida Film Festival and five other weekend-festivals. She has worked for the Metro Orlando Film & Entertainment Commission and the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission. She has a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Central Florida and completed the Crummer Management Program at Rollins College. Shannon is a former president of Women in Film & Television Florida and is currently a graduate faculty scholar at UCF teaching Screening & Selling: Guerrilla Marketing for Independent Films.
“I am so thrilled to have this opportunity, Lacek said, “Orlando Shakes is a great company with an amazing team of dedicated artists, technicians, educators, board members, and administrators. I am honored to be a part of it and look forward to helping the organization grow.”
Lacek’s appointment will begin on September 1, 2010.
