The IceHouse Theatre announces AUDITIONS for the holiday family classic ‘Miracle on 34th Street’

Saturday, October 2:  1-4 pm   &  Sunday, October 3:  7-9 pm

The IceHouse Theatre will hold auditions for the heartwarming holiday classic, Miracle on 34th Street, on Saturday, October 2 from 1-4 pm and on Sunday, October 3 from 7-9 pm.  The show is being directed by Darlin Barry, the Theatre’s managing artistic director.  Auditions will be held at the IceHouse, 1100 N. Unser St., Mount Dora.  Miracle on 34th Street will run November 19-December 19, 2010, playing 16 performances.

The stage play is adapted from the novel by Valentine Davies and the beloved film of the same title, by Patricia Di Benedetto Snyder, Will Severin and John Vreeke with underscoring and curtain song by Will Severin.  While the production contains some music, it is not a musical but rather ‘a play with music.’

The Story:  a practical young girl (of 6-8 years), Susan, lives with her no-nonsense mother, Doris, who works for Macy’s department store in NYC.  A city-wide sensation is caused by a gentleman named Kris Kringle who arrives to be Macy’s Santa Claus for the season and inadvertently creates a wave of holiday generosity and good cheer by helping shoppers find the toys they want for Christmas, whether purchased at Macy’s or not.  Innocently defending his identity as the one-and-only Santa, Kris is put on trial for lunacy.  An attorney, Fred Gailey, must prove in court that Kris is truly Santa, and potentially win the hearts of both Susan and Doris.

Auditions are by Appointment Only.  Eligibility:  Male and Female ADULTS and older TEENS (ages 16 on up,) may audition for this large cast show.  Roles: This stage adaptation is extraordinarily true to the film version, including all of the familiar and delightful characters; Susan and Doris Walker, Fred Gailey, Mr. Shellhammer, Mr. Macy, Mr. Gimble, Dr. Pierce, Judge Harper, Charlie Halloran, Mr. & Mrs. Mara and Tommy Mara, Miss Adams, Cleo, and many others.  Ensemble members will play named characters as well as multiple other roles such as shoppers, parade characters, newsboys, photographers, reporters, etc.  The role of Kris Kringle will be played by guest artist Frank Zeleznik.  All other roles are open.  Limited callbacks may be held on Monday, October 4 from 7-9 pm, if necessary, to complete casting.

GIRLS (ages 7-12,) to be considered for the role of Susan Walker:  will be slated to audition from 3-4 pm on Saturday, October 2.

Auditioners: please send a performing resume and a photo, if available.  Actors will read scenes from the script; some may be asked to sing along to a familiar Christmas song.
