The IceHouse Theatre announces auditions for Steel Magnolias
Sunday & Monday, Dec 5 & 6 from 7-9 pm
The IceHouse Theatre will hold auditions for the humorous and touching dramatic comedy Steel Magnolias on Sunday and Monday, December 5 and 6, from 7-9 pm. The show is being directed by Darlin Barry, the Theatre’s Managing Artistic Director. The auditions, which are by appointment, will be held at the IceHouse, 1100 N. Unser St., Mount Dora, FL 32757. Steel Magnolias will run January 21 – February 13, 2011, playing 16 performances. The award-winning play is by Robert Harling.
The Story: The setting is Truvy’s Beauty Spot salon, in the late 1980’s in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. With her eager new assistant, Annelle, the wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the curmudgeon Ouiser, the eccentric Miss Clairee, socialite M’Lynn, and her head-strong daughter Shelby, who is about to marry. The strength of their bonds, forged with laughter and love, carry the six friends through life’s joys and sorrows.
- Truvy (40ish), pragmatic owner of the shop;
- Annelle (20ish), timid beauty shop assistant;
- Clairee (66ish), wealthy widow of former mayor with a dry and wicked sense of humor;
- Shelby (25ish), willful and loving young woman;
- M’Lynn (50ish), Shelby’s mother; a socially prominent career woman;
- Ouiser (66ish), wealthy curmudgeon; acerbic but loveable.
(Unlike the film adaptation, there are no male roles.)
Auditions are by appointment only. To request an audition slot for either Sunday, December 5 or Monday, December 6, e-mail your preferred date to: firstname.lastname@example.org. An appointment time will be sent by return e-mail.
