Good news from the Oops Guys, the former Orlandoans who are bringing Bitches of the Kingdom! to the 2011 Fringe. The musical, which is also called Disenchanted! and is the tale of a bunch of Disney princesses gone sour, just won a full production from the New Jersey Playwrights Contest.
Writer Dennis Giacino (half of the Oops Guys with Fiely Matias) won first place in the contest.
The full production will be in June 2011, so it sounds like the Orlando Fringe will be something of a preview for the New Jersey show. Congratulations to Dennis, and here’s more from him:
Oops Guys’ writer Dennis Giacino announced WINNER in playwriting contest!
Disenchanted! – also known as Bitches of the Kingdom!, a new musical revue featuring the original fairy tale princesses comically bemoaning the exploitation they’ve suffered in the Disney movies and theme parks, has just been selected as the WINNER of the 2010 New Jersey Playwrights Contest. Written by Oops Guys scribe Dennis Giacino, Disenchanted! has been awarded a full production (venue, rehearsal space, director, music director, choreographer, casting, marketing, sets, costumes, lighting package, and a fully orchestrated score!) by NJPC to take place in June 2011 at William Paterson University. Ed Matthews of WPU directs while the show is music directed and orchestrated by Warren Helms (Juilliard-Lincoln Center instructor, has appeared at Carnegie Hall and, most recently, playing for Susan Boyle on national television as a part of NBC’s year-end round-up of the most intriguing people of 2010).
NJPC Show Dates: June 9, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 in 2011
Thurs., Fri., Sat. at 8:00pm; Sun. matinees at 2:00pm

Disenchanted! has played in workshops in NYC and NJ to nothing but sold-out houses, audience raves and standing ovations.
