Audition notice: Forbidden Fruit’s ‘Rent’

Here’s an audition notice from Sean Flynn at Forbidden Fruit Productions:

I am writing this in hopes of encouraging as many non-theatre people as possible! Seriously, I want raw musical talent.

Forbidden Fruit Productions presents Jonathan Larson’s Rent
August 18-21 and 25-28

A fascinating conceptual version of Jonathan Larson’s 1996 Pulitzer-Prize winning musical Rent directed by Sean Flynn.  Local artist Swam and his fellow B-Side Artists have agreed to collaborate on what is to be a very fresh take on a musical that defined a generation.

Gearing away from the realism of the original, this production will take on a “show within a show” approach. Audiences will see a story unfold as homeless artists present a “Sidewalk Performance.”

The audience will be transported to a warehouse in New York City where a village of homeless performers creates art to make a living. Using only what they find on their daily dumpster dives, and what is littered on the street, they have put together something quite beautiful. A story of heart. The performers accompany each other on their own instruments and have put together their own lighting system made from leftover Christmas and Halloween décor.
