Andrea Canny starts new cabaret series

There’s a new cabaret series in town, and it’s just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Andrea Canny is producing a cabaret night, Blowin’ Broadway, every Monday at Mr. Sisters, the new gay bar on East Colonial Drive in Orlando. For the first show, on Valentine’s Day, singers will be Kevin Kelly, Kurt von Schmittou and Gabriel Diaz. John DeHaas will play the piano, and Canny herself will probably sing a song or three.

Most of you probably know Canny as a performer at Disney, as a frequent cabaret artist around town and as the absolutely wonderful Miss Adelaide in the Orlando Philharmonic/Mad Cow Theatre Guys and Dolls last fall.

At Mr. Sisters, she’s hoping to present “all the great talent in town that’s Broadway caliber.” Shows will also promote events coming up, such as musical-theater shows in the Orlando Fringe, and Canny hopes to feature performers from touring Broadway shows such as the upcoming Wicked and Shrek.

Canny will conduct Q&As with some of her guests and will include video snippets from others.

The hourlong shows will be at 7 and 9 p.m. each Monday. There’s no cover charge, and 10 percent of the receipts from food and drink sales between 7 and 10 p.m. will go to Hope and Help of Central Florida.

Mr. Sisters is at 5310 E. Colonial Drive, on Lake Barton, just west of Semoran Boulevard. Details: 407-545-2467.
