Here’s an audition notice from the IceHouse Theatre:
The IceHouse Theatre will hold auditions for the witty comedy about living life to the hilt at any age, Later Life, by A.R. Gurney. Auditions will be held on Monday & Tuesday, April 4 & 5, from 7-9 pm. The show is being directed by Darlin Barry, the Theatre’s Managing Artistic Director. The auditions, which are by appointment, will be held at the IceHouse, 1100 N. Unser St., Mount Dora, FL 32757. Later Life will run May 6 – 29, 2011, playing fifteen performances.
The Story: Buttoned-down banker Austin and free-spirited Ruth meet at a cocktail party on a terrace overlooking Boston Harbor. As they recall having had a brief romance 30 years earlier and begin to rekindle the flame, a variety of colorful characters interrupts their conversation throughout the evening. With humor and heart, these other guests reveal some of the many lifestyles people can lead and the tricks and turns that life offers. By the end of the party, Austin and Ruth have the chance to pick up where they left off with their romance or to go their separate ways once again.
Roles: Male 1: Austin (mid 50’s) conservative, distinguished and self-possessed; Male 2: these five roles are played by one actor: Jim, Duane, Roy, Walt, Ted (40’s-70’s); Jim – a professorial smoker; Duane – a nebbish computer nut; Roy – a cantankerous former-runner; Walt – a gregarious lifelong buddy of Austin’s; and Ted – a frisky southern gentleman. Female 1; Ruth (early 50’s) open-minded, romantic and daring; Female 2: these five roles are played by one actress: Sally, Marion, Judith, Nancy, Esther (40’s-70’s); Sally – an exuberant hostess; Marion – a loving grandmother; Judith – a dramatic, classical musician; Nancy – a severe snob; and Esther — a fun-loving southern belle.
Auditions are by Appointment Only. To request an audition slot for either Monday, April 4 or Tuesday, April 5, e-mail your preferred date to: firstname.lastname@example.org. An appointment time will be sent by return e-mail. Auditioners: please send a performing resume and a photo, if available. Actors will read scenes from the script; prepared monologues are not needed. If necessary, limited callbacks will be held to complete casting.
