Gorilla Theatre opens grand(ly)

Sak Comedy Lab‘s newest show, Gorilla Theatre, holds its grand opening next weekend, with a gala following the show. Read on:

Sak Comedy Lab presents a wild new improv format! Created by Keith Johnstone of Calgary Canada, the Sak version runs amok under the direction of David Charles. Four improv performers-turned-directors battle it out for the highly coveted Gorilla Trophy. The stakes are high as each director competes to have his/her vision win the night in a series of spontaneous scenes, songs and games. This is no-holds-barred improv at its finest! Will the audience go “bananas” for the successful scene, or demand a “forfeit” for the misfires? Only one director can claim the gorilla as his/her own at the end of the night!

A little more on Red Chair

Polypropylene red chair with stainless steel s...

It was fun to read my former colleague and friend Matt Palm’s take on Saturday night’s Red Chair Affair: He and I had a lot of the same reactions to an evening that was full of artistic surprises.

Used to be that Red Chair was full of exactly what we expected — little bits and pieces of the tried and true. Not so much this time around — not with spoken wordsmithing from my buddy Tod Caviness and a Jersey Boys re-creation from the Orlando Gay Chorus. And not with some real thrills from a bunch of familiar faces:

It’s Red Chair time (does that mean it’s almost fall?)

With the Red Chair Affair almost upon us, the 2010-2011 arts season can’t be far behind.

But right now is time for you to get your tickets to Red Chair, a preview to some of the best that the Orlando arts season will have to offer. And it’s time to bid on a red chair for your very own self, to help raise money for the Arts & Cultural Alliance, will provides support for, you guessed it, local arts and culture.
