Another good year for Fringe, by the numbers

Orlando’s Fringe Festival sold more than 2,200 show tickets than it did in 2010, producing artistic director Beth Marshall announced today. The numbers of tickets sold — 20,139  — was almost equal to the number sold in 2008, still the biggest year for the Fringe.

Orlando Fringe needs you for its 20th-reunion photo

It’s the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival’s 20th anniversary this year. Some of us remember it when it was just a baby, and we remember when you didn’t have to put “Theatre” in its name because we all knew there was a whole lot of theater going on.

Anyway, the celebrations are already starting, and one of them is a so-called class picture to fit in with this year’s theme, which is the 20th high-school reunion.

The group photo is being shot at 4:30 p.m. Monday Feb. 7 in front of the Lowndes Shakespeare Center in Loch Haven Park. Any Fringe fans are welcome.

Marshall wins John Goring award

Beth Marshall, producing artistic director of the Orlando Fringe, will receive the first John Goring Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award, to be given out in conjunction with Playwrights’ Round Table’s John Goring Memorial One-Act Festival. She’ll be given the award Sunday afternoon Nov. 14 at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center.

Two rise at the Fringe

Congrats to George Wallace and Mike Garvey, who have new positions with the Fringe. George, who was producer Beth Marshall’s right-hand man for the last festival, has been promoted to general manager, leaving Marshall to concentrate on artistic direction. And Mike, a familiar face among Fringe volunteers for many years, is the festival’s new board president.
