FantasyLand schedules ‘Xanadu’ for I Drive

FantasyLand Theatrical, which has been producing theater at Pointe Orlando on International Drive since last August, has gotten the rights to produce the 2007 hit musical Xanadu — the one about the roller-skating Greek muse. The show will open in April.

Xanadu replaces Side Show, the 1997 musical about a pair of Siamese twins who work as a carnival act, on FantasyLand’s 2010-2011 schedule. The group says it will push Side Show back to January 2012.

The Pointe announces its 2011 season

Pointe Performing Arts Center will do a season of 10 mostly familiar plays this year at its theater on International Drive, beginning with a January-February production of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit. Most of the titles have been successful plays that were turned into movies.

Pointe Performing Arts raises bucks for GLB community center

The Pointe Performing Arts Center raised more than $700 for the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Community Center of Central Florida (otherwise known as the Center) last weekend with a performance of Torch Song Trilogy. Harvey Fierstein‘s trilogy of one-acts tell the story of a gay man named Arnold Beckoff, a drag queen dealing with love and loss in 1970s and ’80s New York.

The show continues through Nov. 14.

The Pointe Performing Arts Center is looking for a variety of actors for the holidays, including the shows A Seasonal Celebration and The Eight: Reindeer Monologues. The group also needs someone to play Santa.

One actor still needed for ‘Torch Song’

FantasyLand Theatrical held auditions for Torch Song Trilogy last weekend. (I missed reporting them, unfortunately, because the dates in the press releases were wrong.) But FantasyLand is still looking for one male age 17-19 for the show, which will be presented at Pointe Performing Arts Center on International Drive. ‘Tuesdays With Morrie’ does show for ALS

Tuesdays With Morrie, a production at the new Pointe Performing Arts Center on I Drive, is putting on a special performance in conjunction with the Florida Chapter of the ALS Association as a way of sharing information about ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

New I Drive theater needs a pianist

There’s a new theater opening July 6 in the tourist zone. It’s called the Pointe Performing Arts Center, and it will be the home of FantasyLand Theatrical (the folks who did the Laramie Project sequel at Lake Eola last fall). At the Pointe they’ll be taking a sharp turn with a season of mainstream comedies (and one drama): Greater Tuna, Tuesdays With Morrie, Nunsense and Nunsense A-Men — and they’re looking for a pianist for Nunsense.
