Here’s an audition notice for a community-theater production of The Producers:

Sands Theater Company will hold open auditions for Mel Brooks’ The Producers on January 4 and 5 at the Athens Theatre at 7 pm. An additional Call Back Date is yet to be announced. The Athens Theatre is located at 124 N. Florida Avenue in Downtown DeLand.

The Producers tells the story of a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer, Max Bialystock, and a nerdy, young accountant, Leo Bloom, who concoct a scheme to raise thousands of dollars from backers and then put on a flop of a show. With all the money that will be leftover, the pair will be rich! Only one thing goes wrong: the show is a gigantic hit!

(Show description and more information about characters, including age range and vocal style, may be found at http://www.stageagent.com/Shows/View/1016)

Julie Schmitt will direct this production and the Musical Direction will be announced shortly.

There are numerous other speaking/singing parts that will also need to be cast.  In addition, a chorus in this production will be multi-functional serving as several different groups throughout the show including usherettes, theatre attendees, old ladies, storm troopers, convicts, etc. Ideally, we’ll be looking to have an ensemble cast that numbers between 20 and 25 people.
